The Importance of the E-Brake: How I Almost Got Run-Over… in the House

The only reason a car should be in the house is as part of the décor.

The only reason a car should be in the house is as part of the décor.

After chatting in her home office one afternoon my mom and I left the room;  She turned right to go down the hall while I took a left.  Not half a second later the house was shaken by a monstrous crash!  My mom and I turned and ran towards each other, meeting at the entrance to the room we’d just left which now sported one fewer wall and housed a shiny, red Ford Focus.

Turns out, the neighbor across the street had parked the car at the top of her slight incline of a driveway without setting the emergency brake.   She said she NEVER set the emergency brake.  Shaking with the adrenaline that comes from having narrowly escaped certain injury we explained that the unused brake allowed her car to roll down her driveway, across the street, down our driveway, over the hedge, and through the wall.  Pointing to her vehicle buried in our house we informed her that that was the exact reason the emergency brake existed.

Bet she uses it now.
