2013 Hyundai Genesis
If you’ve never driven a Hyundai Genesis you might not understand why J.D. Power would give the midsize premium car the highest possible ranking in its “Highest Initial Quality Segment”. In fact, if you haven’t driven any of the latest Hyundai models you really won’t understand why the Korean auto maker finished in the top 10 overall!
But J.D. Power gets it. And so do Hyundai Genesis owners. The Initial Quality ranking measures owner’s satisfaction with their vehicle 90 days after purchasing it. The Genesis owners reported fewer problems with their vehicle than any other owners in the same segment. “Outperforming all of our competitors in the premium midsize car segment is a reflection of the dedication of all Hyundai team members,” said Erwin Raphael, director of engineering and quality, Hyundai Motor America. “Awards like this demonstrate we’re succeeding in connecting with our customers through an unprecedented combination of premium performance, technology, safety and quality.”
A handful of other Hyundai models also made the list:
Genesis Sedan: Number 1 Midsize Premium Car
Azera: Number 2 in Large Cars
Sonata: Number 2 in Midsize Car
Santa Fe: Number 2 in Midsize CUV
Accent: Number 2 in Sub-Compact Car
Think it’s time to give Hyundai another look? We do, too.

Kudos to Hyundai, yet again! The 2012 Hyundai Azera made the short list of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s “Top Safety Picks”. To earn a spot on the list vehicles have to pass front, side, rollover and rear-impact tests with a rating of “good” or better. The IIHS released a statement saying, “The Azera was previously tested for front and side crashworthiness. It meets the criteria for the award by earning good ratings in a recent rear impact test assessing whiplash protection and a roof strength test to measure occupant protection in rollover crashes.” The Azera is the seventh Hyundai to receive the Top Safety Pick honor.
