Perhaps Hyundai should stick to land-lubbing vehicles. At least that’s our take after the Hyundai team failed to place at this past weekend’s Red Bull Flugtag competition in Long Beach, CA. Flugtag, which means “flight day” in German, is a Red Bull sponsored event that has competitors “fly” home-made contraptions off a 30-foot (plus or minus) pier into the water below. The vehicle that “flies” the farthest wins. This years’s medal went to the “Chicken Whiperers”, a group of aerospace engineers who set a new Flugtag record with their 258-foot “flight”, beating the previous world record set last year by 30-feet! That’s not to say the Hyundai team didn’t have fun preparing for the event, however. The video below documents some of their process. Better luck next year, Hyundai!
