2012 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500
We’ve had a dreary, rainy Spring in Southern Oregon. But the sun came out today, if for no other reason than we at Butler Ford took delivery of our first 2012 Mustang Shelby GT 500! I could tell you what I think of it but, given that I have yet to drive it (Oh, but I WILL), and that my love of all things powerful, sleek and fast is well documented, you could probably guess what I’d say. So, we’ll let Edmunds.com do the talking:

With its aggressive styling and an engine that can impress even the most jaded automotive enthusiast, you’ll never forget the 2012 Ford Shelby.”
And…
“The 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 injects blood-pumping performance and retro styling into a package that is nevertheless easy to live with every day. Among muscle cars, it’s the top dog.”
“Top dog” seems like an odd way to describe a 550 horsepower machine that’s also *named* after a horse but, you get the idea. This particular model sports the optional glass roof and the SVT Performance Package, about which Ford.com says:
“When you own this limited-run Shelby model, you will be part of an elite group. The Shelby GT500™ Performance Package puts the focus on substance and performance. It includes a 3.73 limited-slip rear axle,19-inch painted forged-aluminum front wheels, 20-inch painted forged-aluminum rear wheels (with P265/40ZR19(F) P285/35ZR20(R) tires), high-performance front and rear springs, unique front and rear stabilizer bars, specialized rear shocks, a rear spoiler with distinctive Gurney flap, a custom gear shift knob and unique exterior stripes.”
The base model comes with a 5.4 liter V8 engine and manual transmission… all the better for blowing the competition off the line… not that we want to race it… of course we don’t want to race it (which font indicates sarcasm?). Maybe we just want to cruise along at reasonable speeds listening to our satellite radio (standard) or taking advantage of the Bluetooth capabilities (standard) to call our friends and tell them to look out their window as we drive by… slowly… so we can see the envy on their faces. Slow speeds are okay because the Shelby just looks fast, even when it’s sitting still. Which is good because I don’t imagine this car will be around the lot for long… I’d better at least go *sit* in it while I have the chance!
